J.J. Watt gives his take on the Patriots following loss to Bills

"This one's going to hurt and sting for them. But they still have a chance, everything is in front of them that they want to accomplish."

Former Texans and Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt got to watch Sunday’s Patriots game from the booth, as he called the game on CBS alongside Ian Eagle.

As he has done multiple Patriots games since making his broadcasting debut this year, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year gave his insight into the Patriots for the rest of the season.

This loss to the Bills keeps the AFC East title up for grabs for the time being, as well as reopening conversations surrounding the Patriots’ strength of schedule being the reason for their success. Watt, though, doesn’t see it this way.

“Everybody wants to point to the schedule, they can only play who they play,” Watt said postgame. “That’s not their fault that that’s how the schedule fell. They go out there and they win the games on their schedule.”

Up until Sunday, New England had been handling the teams they played with not too much trouble. After a shaky start to the season, they rattled off 10 wins in a row, putting them atop the AFC East and in contention for the first seed.

Watt believes much of this success has come on the back of Drake Maye, and while this past weekend wasn’t his best performance, Watt still believes he can lead the Patriots.

“Drake Maye is an impressive football player,” Watt continued. “He’s in the MVP conversations for a reason. My favorite play of the day was him sprinting all the way down the field, 50 plus yards, to lead the way for TreVeyon Henderson’s long touchdown.”

While this loss was tough to stomach for the Patriots, they still have the AFC East in their hands, as they can win out and secure it.

“This one’s going to hurt and sting for them,” Watt concluded his analysis with. “But they still have a chance, everything is in front of them that they want to accomplish.”

The Patriots will look to get back on track as they travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens Sunday night.
