With the Patriots already in the midst of a short week with a primetime game against the Jets set for Thursday, it should come as little surprise that Mike Vrabel’s team is dealing with its fair share of bumps and bruises.
Just a day after New England secured a hard-fought win over the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, the Patriots had a whopping 15 players on their injury report — with little time afforded to them as they brace for Thursday’s matchup.
Tight end Austin Hooper did not take part in Monday’s walk-through due to a concussion, while other key cogs like Chrisitan Barmore, TreVeyon Henderson, Marcus Jones, and Jaylinn Hawkins were all limited due to injuries.
The injury bug stung New England several times during Sunday’s win against the Bucs.
While running back Terrell Jennings was the only player who was officially ruled out during Sunday’s victory due to a knee injury, Barmore, Henderson, Jones, and Hawkins all had to be attended to by trainers during the game after suffering their respective ailments.
Even with the sizable number of Patriots on the injury report, New England had some semblance of good news when it comes to the status of both Kayshon Boutte and Rhamondre Stevenson.
Both Boutte and Stephenson did not play on Sunday against the Bucs due to a hamstring and toe injury, respectively. But, after not being able to practice all of last week in the lead-up to that game in Tampa, it’s a positive sign that both Boutte and Stevenson were at least limited participants on Monday.
New England’s limited prep time this week might work against them when it comes to potentially clearing both Boutte and Stevenson for game action on Thursday.
Yet, it’s a welcome sight that both players appear to be on the mend amid a frantic segment of New England’s season.
“I think just running around here telling everybody it’s Thursday, that’s about it,” Vrabel said Monday of how New England is approaching a short week. “That’s about all you can do. And I’ve tried to do that to the best of my ability so far today.
“Just try to get physically recovered the best that we can. Tough game on the road. So, we’ll try to do that and then just keep reminding everybody it’s Thursday.”
