Patriots NFL trade deadline live updates: Patriots don’t make any deals

The Patriots have several areas on the depth chart that could be due for an upgrade before Tuesday evening.

The NFL trade deadline is nearly here, and the Patriots have a few daunting calls to make in the coming hours.

With the deadline set for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Eliot Wolf and the rest of the Patriots’ front office still have some time to work the phones and try to acquire talent for a 7-2 New England squad.

While there are several areas of the roster that could use some reinforcements for the stretch run, New England must also weigh whether or not it’s worth relinquishing future assets for this winter — especially if the franchise is looking to cultivate a sustainable contender.

But, even if New England isn’t necessarily going big-game hunting for a star talent like Trey Hendrickson, Chris Olave, Breece Hall, or A.J. Brown, the Patriots still should be able to swing a deal or two to add some outside help before the deadline.

“If something that we think is gonna help us now and in the future (comes up), then that’s probably something we should look at,” Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said during his weekly appearance on WEEI. “But I don’t think our 7-2 record is going to force us to do something or not do something.”

Live Coverage

Tuesday, Nov. 4

4:02: According to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, the Patriots made no moves before the 4 p.m. deadline.

It’s a bit surprising that New England didn’t make any moves to address depth issues across several areas of the roster — especially when it comes to pass rushers, running backs, and the secondary.

But as the Patriots look to create a sustainable contending team for both 2025 and beyond, it does make some sense that New England wasn’t going to be willing to part with valuable draft capital — especially with the team still so early in this accelerated retool/rebuild.

We’ll have plenty more to come on Boston.com.

4:00: The NFL trade deadline has arrived. We’ll see if New England made any moves at the buzzer….

3:55: No more trades from the Titans, per Paul Kuharsky. Arden Key would have been a nice pickup for New England.

3:53: If you’re a Patriots fan wishing for a reunion between A.J. Brown and Mike Vrabel in New England, you might have to wait until the offseason.

According to Adam Schefter, Brown is staying put in Philly.

3:37: With less than 30 minutes to go, it looks as though Garrett Wilson won’t be on the move by New York.

2:50: Sure enough, Jordan Schultz is now reporting that Breece Hall wants out of New York. He’d be a great addition to the Patriots, but it’ll likely be a third-round pick, which Dianna Russini reports that no team has been willing to meet … yet.

2:11: A pass-rusher like Tennessee’s Arden Key makes a lot of sense for New England. But could the Titans be weary of dealing with Mike Vrabel and the Patriots?

Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal seems to think that’s the case.

“There has been some conversation league-wide that Tennessee might be unwilling to make deals with New England because the owner, Amy Adams Strunk, continues to think too much about how things ended with Vrabel and is not inclined to help his new team,” Giardi wrote.

2:10: The Jets are in full teardown mode. Quinnen Williams is heading to Dallas, with the Cowboys reportedly sending a first-round pick to Dallas.

Still remains to be seen if some top offensive weapons like Hall or even wideout Garrett Wilson could be had for the right price.

2:01: Jets not done? Breece Hall still on the market.

2:00: Two hours to go! So far, all quiet with the Patriots.

12:51: Another trade, as Sam Darnold gets another weapon in Rashid Shaheed. He would have been another nice pickup for the Patriots as a deep-ball threat, especially with Kayshon Boutte hampered with a hamstring injury.

Shaheed had 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns this season in New Orleans.

12:47: We have our first blockbuster of the day, as the Colts are trading for Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner.

The Colts — who have been one of the top surprises in the AFC — swing for the fences. According to Dianna Russini, the Jets are getting two first-round picks back, while Adam Schefter adds that New York is getting WR AD Mitchell as well.

Considering the Jets aren’t going anywhere in the next year or two … that’s a pretty good haul for a top corner.

It sure looks like the Jets are open for business. The Patriots would love to add a playmaker like Breece Hall, but it still remains to be seen if New York would want to do business with another team in the AFC East.

At the very least, the Patriots should be happy that a top corner in Gardner is out of the division.

11:50: With a little over four hours to go before the NFL trade deadline, here’s a look at the top priorities for the Patriots when it comes to shoring up their roster.

Edge rusher should still be the priority for this team if they have to target just one area on the depth chart.

11:35: Jakobi Meyers is getting traded … just not to the Patriots.

According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Raiders are trading Meyers to the Jaguars in exchange for a fourth and sixth-round pick.

You could make the case that the Patriots had a lot of slot options already in place on their roster, but Meyers would have been a solid pickup. He had plenty of familiarity in New England (especially in his first few years with Josh McDaniels) and rarely gets knocked for drop.s

Alas, Meyers should be a key cog for the Jaguars as they try to give Trevor Lawrence a few more options.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Vegas sells off a few more pieces before 4 p.m.

11:00: The Patriots are adding a wideout … on the free-agent market.

According to Jordan Schultz, New England is signing free-agent wide receiver Brenden Rice — the son of Jerry Rice.

A seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chargers, Rice appeared in three games as a rookie but didn’t record a reception and was released by the Chargers this August.

Rice should stand as some added depth, especially with Kayshon Boutte dealing with a hamstring injury.

10:00: The Bengals are definitely a team to watch, especially if they decide to raise the white flag amid Joe Burrow’s injury and a horrid defense.

Trey Hendrickson is still the name to follow if the Bengals follow through on a fire sale today.

Monday, Nov. 3

7:29: Another edge-rushing target off the board for the Patriots.

6:43: If New England is adamant on adding an edge rusher, they could run into some competition with a team like Dallas.

6:15: It remains to be seen if the Patriots have the gumption to try and acquire a true star before Tuesday’s deadline. But even if the cost is steep, Kay Adams wants to see the Patriots try to make a play for a proven wideout like Miami’s Jaylen Waddle.

Advertisement:

“You’ve got Drake Maye. Third in MVP odds. A Top-5 defense,” Adams said on her “Up & Adams” show. “A schedule that does give you the warm insides. You have an inside track to win the AFC East. Go all out.”

“I feel like Jaylen (Waddle) would be such a good compliment because of what he does with the ball in his hands,” she added. “He would compete in this receivers room.”

Given Waddle’s age (26), contract (signed through 2028), and proven track record as a dynamic pass-catcher, any potential trade involving Waddle would likely have to start with a first-round pick.

5:00: After moving Kyle Dugger and Keion White last week, the Patriots might also be looking to move another established player in Anfernee Jennings.

4:40: Interesting stuff here from Dianna Russini. The Patriots shouldn’t be giving up a first-round pick for a soon-to-be free agent like Hendrickson. But if the asking price drops?

4:30: One of the more intriguing trade targets for the Patriots went off the board early on Monday morning, as Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips was dealt to the Eagles in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. It’s a nice return for Phillips, who has dealt with some injuries but has recorded 26 sacks in 55 career games in Miami.

Phillips was one of the top edge rushers on the market and would have been a nice pickup for a Patriots team that needs another potent pass-rushing threat.

4:00: As we wait for things to heat up for the Patriots, here’s a look at some potential top targets for New England at the trade deadline. Again, there’s no guarantee that New England is going to land a star like Chris Olave or Breece Hall, but New England does have the assets if they want to be aggressive.
