A Patriots Super Bowl winner has called time on his NFL career.

Duron Harmon, who won three Super Bowls in New England during his tenure from 2013-2019, announced his retirement from his professional playing career on Wednesday.

“Every good thing must come to an end,” Harmon said in an Instagram post announcing the news. “What a beautiful journey it has been and I thank God for choosing me for this unbelievable experience.”

Harmon, who was initially seen as a reach by Bill Belichick in the third round of the 2013 draft, quickly proved his skeptics wrong. He became a frequent contributor in New England’s secondary, recording 17 interceptions in his seven seasons with the Patriots.

He gained the nickname “The Closer” for his ability to make clutch interceptions late in games.

Harmon eventually left New England as a free agent, playing additional seasons for the Lions, Falcons, Raiders, Bears, and Browns.

In his social media post, he thanked several people (including his parents, siblings, fans, teammates, and friends).

Harmon also mentioned Belichick, Robert Kraft, and the Patriots.

“I want to thank Coach Belichick, Mr. Kraft and the Patriots for taking a chance on me,” he wrote. “Being apart of this organization for 7 years was life changing. You guys let me be apart of something that will forever be cemented in history.”

During an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Mike D’Abate, the former Patriot also explained what he will miss about his playing career.

“What I will miss most is the brotherhood in locker room, which is really sacred to me,” Harmon said. “I got to experience 11 years of that in the NFL, and seven of those years with the greatest organization ever.”
