Report: Ex-Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade from Raiders
"The team, citing his value, said they had no plans to do so."
Former Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers wants out of Las Vegas, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
Meyers spent the first four seasons of his career with the Patriots before signing with the Raiders in 2023.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound pass catcher posted his first 1,000 yard season last year. He hauled in 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns.
Contract negotiations between Meyers and the team did not go as planned, according to the report.
“#Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers recently met with team brass and requested to be traded, per me and@TomPelissero,” Rapoport wrote.
“The team, citing his value, said they had no plans to do so,” he added. “Meyers and the team attempted to negotiate a new contract, but could not come to terms.”
Meyers is in the final year of the three-year, $33 million deal he signed with Las Vegas in 2023. He would be a free-agent next year if he does not sign a contract extension.
Meyers, 28, is the last Patriots receiver to top 800 yards in a season. He had success in New England playing in Josh McDaniels’s offense. Earlier this month, Patriots executive Eliot Wolf said he was talking to all 31 teams keeping an eye out for deals that could help the team improve.
The Patriots overhauled their receiving corps during the offseason, signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, along with drafting Kyle Williams after years of starving for talent at the position.
Diggs, who is coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL, is the only player on New England’s roster with a 1,000 yard season under his belt.
After he left, in 2023, Meyers told Rich Eisen that he wanted to stay with the Patriots, but the Raiders made a better offer.
“The business side of things took over. You know how it goes,” Meyers said on The Rich Eisen Show. “I mean, of course, I definitely wanted to stay (in New England). I’ve got a lot of family on that team. It would have been a cool opportunity, but I can’t even sit here and act like I’m not excited to be a Raider now.”
It appears the excitement has worn off, with Meyers reportedly asking to be sent elsewhere.
