Patriots set to unveil new ‘Rivalries’ alternate uniform in August
The Patriots will wear the new uniforms when they host the Jets in Week 11.
The Patriots have a new uniform coming in 2025, but we won’t know for a little bit what those new uniforms will look like.
New England is set to unveil a “Rivalries” alternate uniform on Aug. 28, the team announced. The Patriots will wear the new uniforms when they host the Jets on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 11.
While the Patriots didn’t unveil the uniforms, they might have given a hint at what they might look like. In their announcement sharing that they have new uniforms on the way, they posted a video to their social media accounts showing their white away jersey going through the snow. Maybe that’s a sign that they’ll be winter-themed as they’ll debut the new look on Nov. 13.
Drake Maye revealed early in the offseason that New England would have new uniforms in 2025. However, he indicated that the new uniforms might be an updated version of one of the uniforms the team previously wore.
“I think they’re maybe coming out with a — maybe — the fans are wanting some blues, some throwback blues,” Maye said on the “Green Light” podcast with Chris Long. “Those would be sweet. The fans are wanting some of those, which would be sick.”
Maye was likely referring to the royal blue uniforms that the team wore for much of the 1990s. In 1993, the Patriots did their first uniform redesign in the history of the franchise, ditching the “Pat Patriot” uniforms for the royal blues.
The Patriots also dropped some hints earlier in 2025 that the royal blue uniforms might be making a return in the upcoming season. In their “Happy New Year” post on social media in January, the Patriots shared an illustration that included a fan wearing a royal blue Ben Coates jersey. In their post wishing fans a happy Valentine’s Day a month later, their illustration included a white away jersey they wore when they wore the royal blue uniforms.
New England will be one of the first teams to unveil new uniforms that are a part of the NFL’s “Rivalries” program. The other three AFC East teams and all four NFC West teams will unveil a “Rivalries” uniform in 2025 as well.
The NFL announced the “Rivalries” program as part of its apparel partnership with Nike in April.
“The NFL is home to some of the biggest football rivalries and today marks a historical moment for the NFL as we share ‘Rivalries’ with the world,” NFL chief revenue officer Renie Anderson said. “Together with Nike, we are harnessing the power of rivalry matchups to bring fan excitement and community pride to the next level. Through specially designed player uniforms and limited-edition fan gear, we will embark on a journey that inspires competitive spirit and reveals the winner in all of us.”
The addition of the “Rivalries” uniforms comes as the NFL has taken a more lenient approach to allow teams to wear alternate looks in recent years. Teams can now have up to three different helmet designs after being allowed to wear just one for much of the 2010s through 2021. This offseason, the league approved a change in which teams can wear an alternate uniform for up to four games in a season.
New England will still wear its “Pat Patriot” uniforms in 2025. The Patriots announced earlier this week that they will wear the red uniforms when they host the Steelers in Week 3 and the Giants in Week 13.
