What Mike Vrabel said about viral Stefon Diggs party boat video
"Obviously, we want to make great decisions on and off the field."
Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs missed the Patriots’ OTA practice session on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop questions from being asked about a viral video that surfaced of him partying over the Memorial Day weekend.
The video shows Diggs on a boat with several women in swimsuits. At one point in the video, he is holding a clear pouch containing an unidentified pink substance.
Head coach Mike Vrabel was asked if the situation was one the team should be looking into.
“Well, it’s something that we’re aware of. Obviously, we want to make great decisions on and off the field,” Vrabel said. “We’re hoping that with our time here on the field today, that when we don’t have a script and we’re on the call periods, that we’re making great decisions.”
“The message will be the same for all our players, that we’re trying to make great decisions. Any conversations that I’ve had with Stefon will remain between him, I and the club.”
When asked if he had spoken to Diggs since the video surfaced, Vrabel said he “talks to our players every single day.”
The practice that Diggs missed was optional. Diggs missed roughly half of last season after tearing his ACL in October. Vrabel said the team is working hard to get Diggs back on the field and ready to go.
“Everything that we’re going to do is we’re going to coach the guys that show up at 8:00 a.m.,” Vrabel said. “The ones that say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a situation, we’ll be here at 8:05 a.m.,’ we’ll coach those as well.
“This is a voluntary part of our off-season program. Every player that’s not here, which there aren’t many, have been in communication with me and their position coaches.”
Diggs, 31, is a four-time Pro Bowler. He’s entering his 11th NFL season, and the Patriots are his fourth team. He spent five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, and last season with the Houston Texans before inking a three-year deal worth up to $69 million with New England during the offseason.
The Patriots, who have not had a 1,000 yard receiver since 2019, signed Diggs to be their top pass-catching option. None of the Patriots’ receivers topped 700 yards last season.
Diggs has six consecutive 1,000 yard season and appeared to be on his way to a seventh before the injury derailed him.
