The Patriots made a big splash in the first week of free agency bolstering its defense ahead of year one under Mike Vrabel. The offense though, hasn’t been upgraded as rigorously.

As free agency quiets down, eyes now turn towards the draft, where New England will be looking to acquire more offensive talent to surround Drake Maye.

One player gaining traction as a possibility for the Patriots is Mizzou tackle Armand Membou, and New England reportedly sent high level executives to his pro day for a closer look at the lineman.

Mizzou football coach Eliah Drinkwitz spoke about Membou — and indirectly the Patriots on the Up & Adams show with Kay Adams.

“I knew all year he was playing really well. I was trying to get him to come back because I thought he could be the first overall pick next season,” Drinkwitz said. “And I knew when he went to the combine, we all knew that he was going to test unbelievably well. … He’s got rare athleticism and raw strength.

“If you’re in the top 10 of the draft and you’ve got a franchise quarterback, you’d be absolutely crazy — if your quarterback has been getting hit a ton — not to take Armand Membou.”

The Patriots certainly fall into the category described by Drinkwitz. Drake Maye emerged as the team’s franchise QB, but New England’s offensive line was one of the NFL’s worst in 2024. And Little has been done to rectify that as March nears an end.

While the Patriots upgraded at right tackle signing Morgan Moses, and inked a deal with Garrett Bradberry to replace David Andrews at center, there are still uncertainties on the left side of their offensive line. Membou could help rectify those issues.

New England has reportedly been high on Membou since the combine, per Sportskeeda’s Troy Pauline, adding fuel to the possibility of Vrabel and Eliot Wolf selecting Membou in the first round — be it at No. 4 overall or in a trade down scenario.

Membou comes into play even more if Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter come off the draft board before New England’s selection. Hunter and Carter are the consensus top two non-QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class.

The Patriots have already done a lot of work to improve their defense, so turning their attention to a prospect like Membou would make plenty of sense come April.
