Tom Brady explained why he can’t bend the middle finger on his throwing hand all the way
Brady showed off the wear and tear on his throwing hand during a friendly cooking competition.
Tom Brady recently took on chef Nick DiGiovanni in a cooking competition in a video posted to YouTube. Brady made waffles, DiGiovanni made pancakes.
During the quest to make crispy, golden brown waffles, DiGiovanni complimented Brady on his ability to touch hot items without flinching.
Brady was asked if his football ability had anything to do with it. He held up his right throwing hand to show how damaged it had become after playing 23 seasons in the NFL.
“These hands got pretty beat up over a long period of time,” Brady said. “You see that [right middle] finger? I can’t even bend that finger anymore even if you tried to straighten it.”
Brady listed several injuries that happened to his hand. He pointed to a pair of ligaments that had been torn, a finger that had been broken, and his palm which he said was ripped open.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback demonstrated how his finger fell back into place while trying to straighten it. He said he had torn a ligament in that finger.
The palm injury happened on a handoff to Rex Burkhead during the 2018 AFC championship game. Brady got the wound stitched up before playing in Super Bowl LII, which New England lost to Philadelphia.
None of it took away from Brady’s waffle-making abilities according to his son, Benjamin Brady, who rated the waffles “8.75” out of ten, the same score he gave DiGiovanni’s.
The younger Brady poked fun at his dad for “going crazy” with too much whipped cream, but also said that it was the best batch of waffles the legendary quarterback has ever made.
Tom Brady admitted that he was making a “very healthy” version of waffles and whipped cream. DiGiovanni, who was seen pouring clarified butter into his pancake mix, did not seem to aim for the same effect.
“The big difference between mine and Tom’s whipped cream is I’m adding sugar,” DiGiovanni joked.
Brady’s waffles tasted good, but were a little dry, DiGiovanni said. Benjamin joked that his dad made “Patriot Way” waffles.
“Mine are gritty, they’re tough, they’re hard,” Tom Brady said. “You can bounce them off the floor. They’re resilient.”
“These can’t exist in the cold weather against the Colts,” he added, pointing to a plate of fluffy pancakes on the counter. “If we’re down 28-3, these aren’t going to get it done.”
