‘The Art of Winning’: Bill Belichick announces he has written a book
“My life in football over the last 49+ years involved a lot of winning, losing, and more than anything: learning.”
More in the NFL
Bill Belichick has held many titles in the past five decades, including head coach, eight-time Super Bowl champion, and, most recently, media personality.
Now, he can add author to that list.
The legendary former Patriots coach announced Friday on his Instagram account — which he still refers to as “Instaface” — that he wrote a book titled “The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football,” which will go on sale May 6. It is available for preorder.
The book is a collection of “stories, philosophies, and principles” gleaned from the past half-century of his football career, plus lessons from watching his father coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.
“My life in football over the last 49+ years involved a lot of winning, losing, and more than anything: learning,” Belichick wrote on Instagram. “I have learned from all of the teams I was apart [sic] of since early childhood, from my players, competitors, and colleagues in the NFL, and from coaches and players at UNC and the U.S. Naval Academy alongside my beloved father.”
After being fired by the Patriots in January 2024, Belichick began a stint in sports media, spending the past year appearing on podcasts and talk shows as an analyst.
In December, he was named the coach at the University of North Carolina, marking his first foray into coaching at the college level.
Now it’s clear he also spent much of his time away from the field planning and writing his literary debut.
“My hope with this book is that you learn about what I learned in the NFL about sustained success, leadership, and what it means to be a team player,” he wrote on Instagram. “You can make use of those extractable lessons in your own life, no matter what type of TEAM you are apart [sic] of.”
Players, coaches, and notable football figures from throughout Belichick’s coaching career offered testimonials, including Tom Brady, who provided a quote featured prominently on the book’s cover.
“Coach Belichick brought out the best in me,” the quote says. “His book will do the same for you.“
