Newly-named Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels sat down with the Patriots’ social media team this week to talk about his expectations for this season.

“Offense only takes the field for one reason and that’s to try to put points on the board,” said McDaniels. “So our number one goal would be to take care of [the football] and the second part of that is to score as much as we can.”

McDaniels was rehired as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator after spending time with the team in various roles, including as offensive coordinator, between 2001 and 2021. He also had head coaching stints with the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

The offensive coordinator had great success while he was in New England, collecting six Super Bowls rings with the team.

“In this fraternity and the National Football League, that we’re so fortunate to be a part of, there’s nothing like this. You know, you get up, there’s an energy, there’s a purpose to your day.”

McDaniels talked about the future growth of the team.

“There’s just an evolution to our game that I think is important that you need to respect.”

McDaniels then talked about his role and his excitement for this new generation of players and coaches.

“This year has given me an opportunity to really consider all aspects of what this job entails,” said McDaniels. “I’m excited about what we are going to build here and the evolution of our offensive scheme, our offensive attitude — the way we do things, how we practice and ultimately, the way we go about playing.”

He expressed the uniqueness of New England from the time he has spent in the area.

“This place has such a special attraction to me. This area is home to me. Super excited that I have an opportunity to try to impact this place.”

Finally, he talked about his relationship with head coach Mike Vrabel, even noting that he picked up the head coach from the airport upon his arrival.

“I trust his vision. I really understand what he’s going to look for from me and be a part of his staff, and what he is going to build here and what he’s going to put together and how he’s going to lead us.”
