"Why? Drake Maye," Dianna Russini wrote.

While Jerod Mayo is still the Patriots’ head coach, NFL insider Dianna Russini said the job is “definitely on the radar” of many around the league.

“I’d go as far as to say it’s the job a lot of coaching candidates are eyeing. Why? Drake Maye,” Russini wrote Saturday.

Russini, a reporter for The Athletic, noted that coaches are attracted to jobs where the quarterbacks have the potential to win big.

She asked three general managers where they thought Maye would land if he were in this upcoming NFL Draft, and all three said No. 1 overall.

Russini also noted that the Patriots are one of several teams heading into the weekend with “some major decisions” on the horizon. She called the situation “very weird, to say the least.”

According to Russini, most people inside the Patriots organization believe Mayo will get more time. From the outside looking in, there’s a sense around the league that “moves are coming” for the franchise.

New England (3-13) wraps up the season Sunday against Buffalo, with a chance to secure the No. 1 overall pick with a loss.
