Patriots reportedly agree to two-year contract extension with defensive tackle Davon Godchaux
Godchaux originally signed in New England as a free agent in 2021, and has started all but one game since.
The flurry of in-house Patriots contract extensions appears set to continue, with New England reportedly tying up another member of the defense on a new deal.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux have reached an agreement on a two-year extension that could be worth up to $21 million. The deal also reportedly includes $16.5 million in guaranteed money.
Godchaux, 29, has been with the Patriots since signing in New England as a free agent in 2021. Since that time, he’s been a fixture in the lineup, starting all but one game in his three seasons with the team.
His presence on the interior of the line is valued in stopping the run, helping New England’s defense to be one of the best in the league over the last few seasons despite the team’s overall struggles.
The contract extension is the latest in a line of several that Patriots vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo — each of whom are in their first seasons in the respective posts — have agreed to in 2024.
Linebacker Jahlani Tavai, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, and safety Jabrill Peppers are among the list of players to receive recent extensions.
The deal also comes in the wake of recent news that fellow Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore will be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with blood clots. New England leadership, looking to help shore up the position, now has one of its primary interior linemen under contract for the next two seasons.
