Patriots announce open practice dates for training camp
Here's when Patriots fans can get an early look at Drake Maye.
The Patriots formally begin the 2024 season with the opening of training camp in July, and thanks to the usage of open practices, fans will get an early glimpse at rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
All of New England’s players will report to training camp by July 23 (rookies report on July 19). The first practice begins on Wednesday, July 24.
Fans are able to watch quite a bit early on, as the team announced open camp dates for 13 practices starting on the 24th. Gates open at 10 a.m. and practice begins at 11 a.m.
Here’s the list of open practices:
- July 24
- July 25
- July 26
- July 28
- July 29
- July 30
- Aug. 1
- Aug. 2
- Aug. 3
- Aug. 5
- Aug. 6
- Aug. 12
- Aug. 13
The tone of the 2024 training camp will be one that New England football hasn’t seen in a long time. Gone is Bill Belichick, who mutually agreed to part ways after a 4-13 season in 2023.
For the first time in nearly a quarter century, another head coach will patrol the sidelines for the Patriots. Jerod Mayo, formerly a Belichick linebacker and assistant coach, takes the reins and will try to lead a rebuilding effort.
Chief among the early building blocks for Mayo’s tenure will be rookie quarterback Drake Maye. Selected third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Maye — a highly-talented prospect from the University of North Carolina — will be openly competing for a starting spot alongside presumptive starter Jacoby Brissett (a veteran originally drafted by the Patriots and returning to the roster via free agency).
