The Patriots have taken another step on the path to working first-round pick Drake Maye into the team.

According to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo, the Patriots have agreed to terms with Maye on a rookie contract. Update: The Patriots have confirmed the signing:

Maye, 21, was recently selected third overall by New England in the 2024 NFL Draft, and is seen as a central part of the team’s rebuilding effort after a 4-13 season.

First-year head coach Jerod Mayo has already gotten to see his new quarterback on the field during the recent minicamp and OTA portion of the offseason.

“You can already tell like he is going to put in that extra work,” Mayo told reporters earlier in May. “You know, I walked by the quarterback meeting room, he’s just in there by himself, watching film. Those are the things that you want to see. I am excited to see his growth going forward.”

While it was essentially a formality to agree to a contract, getting one more aspect of Maye’s on-boarding officially done represents another crucial check mark in New England’s offseason.
