‘It’s Mayo time’: Matthew Judon explains why Patriots won’t be the same in 2024

Things are changing inside 1 Patriot Place, from the personnel and players to even the signs on the wall.

Matthew Judon is already sensing those changes. The Pro Bowl edge rusher admitted on “The Money Down Podcast” that he knows “it’s not going to be the same and we not gonna be the same Patriots.”

However, Judon, who spent the last three seasons with New England and narrowly missed the dynasty days, is welcoming of an organizational overhaul in Foxborough.

“[Bill Belichick] was there for a long time, he was a great coach, he was great for the organization,” Judon said. “He did everything in his power to win championships, but now it’s [Jerod] Mayo time to do the exact same thing.”

During Belichick’s 24-year tenure in New England he led the team to six Super Bowl championships and 17 division titles. But after going 4-13 in the 2023 regular season, Belichick and the Patriots parted ways.

Still, Judon sees his team as teetering on the edge of greatness.

“We not trying to rebuild. This isn’t post-apocalypse. We just got a new coach,” he said.

And the new head coach is ready to get to work on a winning season.

“One thing that we preach is competition,” Mayo told reporters Saturday. “Everything is about competition, and nothing is given. All of it’s earned.”

Judon, who recorded 10 tackles and four sacks during the 2023 season, has yet to start offseason workouts alongside his team. But that hasn’t stopped him from adopting Mayo’s champion mindset.

“I’m out for a vendetta,” Judon said. “I got stuff I wanna get done in my career. Personally, I’m on all B.S. all year long. I’m about to turn the dial back.”
