If Patriots fans momentarily forgot the date, Matthew Judon was here to remind them on Monday with a timely April Fools’ Day joke.
Judon, 31, is known for having a strong sense of humor, and he unveiled it yet again on April 1 to make what would’ve been an enormous revelation on any other day of the year.
“Thank you Patriots Nation,” Judon’s Instagram post began. And while it appeared to be a retirement announcement, the veteran pass-rusher left a few clues to its actual purpose beyond the context of the date.
“For showing me so much love and support these past three years in New England,” read Judon’s post. “I can honestly say that New England has become one of my favorite places on earth, and it is all thanks to you, the fans. Although this chapter is coming to a close, I am unbelievably excited for the next stage of my career, competing in professional equestrian show jumping.”
The picture on the third page of his post—Judon standing next to a horse in a stable—appears to be photoshopped. Also his apparent decision to go into the world of competitive professional equestrian show-jumping is about as obvious (and humorous) a way possible to telegraph the joke.
In actuality, Judon still has one more year left on what was originally a four-year contract he signed with the Patriots in 2021. Still, if he ever decides to seriously pursue show jumping, it remains an Olympic sport (and one that the United States hasn’t won an individual gold in since 1984).
