Kendrick Bourne believes the Patriots have a ‘sleeper’ at quarterback

As the Patriots sort out their quarterback situation, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne doesn’t want people to forget about someone who’s already on the roster.

New England recently acquired old friend Jacoby Brissett – and may end up taking a QB at at No. 3 in the NFL Draft – but Bourne made it clear he still trusts Bailey Zappe.

Bourne, speaking with the Boston Herald‘s Andrew Callahan, on the “Pats Interference Football Podcast,” voiced his support for his teammate.

“Zappe is a special guy to me, you know what I mean?” Bourne told Callahan. “I believe in him. I think he’s a sleeper that people are, really, you know, looking over.”

At the same time, Bourne said he’s “excited” about the potential of working with Brissett and/or a younger option.

Zappe showed flashes in spurts last year, but consistency was a major problem. He finished 127 for 212 (59.9 percent) for 1,272 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions over 10 games.

Brissett is a proven veteran who has played with five NFL teams over eight seasons. Last year, he appeared in three games with the Washington Commanders and threw three touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

The Patriots could draft Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, trade down to take another QB, or trade for a veteran.

While it’s unlikely Zappe will start Week 1, he is still on the roster. It’s not out of the question he could see time if they take a non-quarterback, elect to trade down, or someone is injured.
