Caleb Williams says Aaron Rodgers, not Tom Brady, is his pick for football GOAT

Williams, who played PAC-12 football and is similar in stature to Rodgers, says he models his game after the Jets quarterback.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams, who is arguably the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class, weighed in on which NFL player he thinks is the greatest of all time during an interview with CBS Sports.

Spoiler alert: It’s not Tom Brady.

“My GOAT is Aaron Rodgers,” Williams said.

Williams did give Brady a shoutout for his mentality and winning ways, but said that Rodgers is the greatest in his eyes.

In a separate video posted on the NFL’s official Twitter account, Williams said that Rodgers is his favorite player and that he tries to emulate the New York quarterback’s game.

“I try to model my game after a bunch of guys, but Aaron Rodgers I would say is No. 1,” said Williams.

Rodgers is a four-time league MVP. Brady has won the award three times.

But, Brady has more Super Bowl wins (7), Super Bowl MVPs (5) Pro Bowl appearances (15), passing yards (89,214), and touchdowns (649) than Rodgers.

Williams is closer to Rodgers than Brady in terms of size. He brought up Rodgers’ name during an interview at the combine when asked about questions about his stature.

“It’s the first time I’m hearing about my height and size,” Williams said. “I’m around Aaron Rodgers’s size and maybe weight too. I’m about 215-220 [pounds] and 6’1”-6’2.”

Williams and Rodgers also played college football in the Pac-12 conference at the University of Southern California and University of California respectively.

Williams is generally considered a top-3 caliber pick, with a significant amount of mock drafts putting him at No. 1. He has reportedly met with the Patriots, who have the No. 3 pick in next month’s draft.

The Bears, who have the No. 1 overall pick, drafted quarterback Justin Fields in the first round three years ago. It’s not yet clear if they’re ready to move on from Fields and take another quarterback in the first round.

Williams is from Washington, D.C., and his hometown Commanders have the No. 2 pick.

The Patriots would likely have to pay a steep price in order to trade up for Williams. There is a chance that he falls to No. 3 on draft night, but it’s far from guaranteed.
