Patriots reportedly set to add Ben McAdoo to offensive coaching staff
McAdoo's most prominent NFL role was as head coach of the Giants from 2016-2017.
The Patriots continue to add to Jerod Mayo’s inaugural coaching staff amid the post-Bill Belichick overhaul.
Ben McAdoo, former head coach of the Giants (and who most recently worked as offensive coordinator of the Panthers during the 2022 season), is set to join New England’s staff as an offensive assistant coach per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
McAdoo, 46, will be linking up with Alex Van Pelt on the team’s new-look offensive coaching staff. Van Pelt, the recently-named offensive coordinator, overlapped with McAdoo during their mutual time in Green Bay.
In 2012-2013, Van Pelt served as Packers running backs coach, while McAdoo coached the quarterbacks.
After McAdoo left in 2014 to become Giants offensive coordinator, Van Pelt took over his old job coaching Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay quarterbacks.
Following two seasons as New York’s offensive coordinator, McAdoo was given the head coaching position. In his first season, the Giants went 11-5 and made the playoffs (losing to the Packers). Things fell apart in year two, however, and McAdoo was fired by New York after a 2-10 start in 2017.
Since his departure from the Giants, McAdoo has held various roles with the Jaguars, Cowboys, and Panthers.
