The final day of 2019 will be a busy one for Boston sports. At 1 p.m., the Bruins face the Devils in New Jersey. At 3 p.m., the Celtics are in Charlotte to play the Hornets. Boston will be playing without Jaylen Brown (recently named Eastern Conference Player of the Week) due to an illness.

And at 6 p.m., Boston College men’s basketball will be at Cameron Indoor Stadium to play Duke.

Bill Belichick on the loss to the Dolphins and the playoffs: A day after a surprising loss to the Dolphins cost the Patriots a first-round bye in the playoffs, Bill Belichick was on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni & Fauria” for his weekly interview.

The Patriots’ coach was asked about cornerback Stephon Gilmore apologizing to teammates over his poor performance in the game.

“Well I think all of us feel the same way,” said Belichick. “All of us who played or coached in the game feel like we didn’t do a good enough job and we could’ve done more. I mean I feel that way. I don’t feel good about the way things went yesterday or the way that I coached the game. I’d like to have some of that back, but you can’t. I’m sure each player that’s played feels the same way.”

The 27-24 loss to Miami now means the Patriots will play in the wild card round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 season. New England will face the Tennessee Titans on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.

“Playoff football’s playoff football,” Belichick reasoned of the Patriots’ situation. “We’re in a one-game season. We’ve been there plenty of times before, but this team hasn’t. So this team will face those challenges this week like every team does if they’re fortunate enough to be here. We’re one of 12 teams that are still playing. Our record is 0-0 just like everybody else is at this time of year and we’ll see where it all goes. I don’t know. There are 20 teams that are done. Fortunately we’re not one of those teams, so our season still continues and whatever we’re able to accomplish and earn, we’ll get.”

Trivia: Starting with the 2010-2011 season through now, can you name every Bruins player who has had multiple 20-goal seasons in this decade? There are six in total.

(Answer at the bottom).

Hint: Four are currently playing for the Bruins, the fifth was part of the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning team, and the sixth was part of the Tyler Seguin trade.

The Dolphins fired offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea: One day after helping the Dolphins beat the Patriots in the regular season finale, O’Shea was let go by Miami. This is notable because O’Shea was the Patriots’ wide receivers coach for a decade, helping the team win three Super Bowls before leaving with fellow former Patriots assistant Brian Flores for Miami after last season. He’s been discussed as a possible replacement for Josh McDaniels should the current New England offensive coordinator accept a head coaching position elsewhere.

The Dolphins are reportedly bringing in Chan Gailey to replace O’Shea.

Le’Veon Bell’s reaction to Adam Gase refusing to answer a question about him:

On this day: In 1975, HC CSKA Moscow (known as the “Central Red Army team”) played the Montreal Canadiens to a thrilling 3-3 draw. The game was part of an intriguing tour of North America by Soviet hockey teams called the “Super Series.” Other editions of the series would be held every few years until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

While the Flyers were the only team to defeat CSKA Moscow during the 1975-1976 edition of the Super Series, the Canadiens played the most entertaining game. It showcased a free-flowing style of hockey that drew applause from fans for players on both teams.

Daily highlight: Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins barely escaped the Florida pass rush before firing the ball up to receiver Hasise Dubois, who made a tremendous catch for the touchdown. The Cavaliers ultimately lost to the Gators, 36-28.

Trivia answer: Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Loui Eriksson.
