‘He really said that?’ Kyle Van Noy reacted to Sam Darnold ‘seeing ghosts’
"That's the boogeymen, it's real."
The Patriots defense spooked Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.
New England beat the Jets 33-0 on Monday, frustrating the rookie quarterback whose team was booed by the home crowd. During the second quarter, with the Patriots up 24-0, Darnold was mic’d up by ESPN and caught saying that he was “seeing ghosts,” a reference to Patriots pass-rushers that entered his line of vision but weren’t truly in his personal space.
Oh no Sam Darnold do not admit to “seeing ghosts” when you’re mic’d up in prime time. https://t.co/E0pukwhL4s

When informed of the comment after the game, Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy connected Darnold’s comment to the Patriots defensive unit’s nickname, “The Boogeymen.”
Kyle Van Noy was told that Sam Darnold said he was seeing ghosts…and he loves it.
“He did? That’s the boogeymen, it’s real. He really said that?” That’s crazy for him to say that?…I mean I can’t believe he said that.”👻 #Patriots #boogeymen pic.twitter.com/P6AAIDnEWz

“He did?” Van Noy asked about Darnold’s comment. “Ooh. That’s the Boogeymen. It’s real.”
“He really said that?” Van Noy asked again. “Oh man. That’s crazy for him to say that. That makes it real. That’s crazy.”
“The Boogeymen” haunted the Jets offense on Monday, snagging four interceptions, with Van Noy recovering a fumble that almost resulted in a touchdown. Jets head coach Adam Gase called the loss “brutal” and said he even “debated” pulling Darnold:
“We didn’t do anything right. All three phases we were bad,” Gase said. “You can’t play that way against these guys or it’ll look like that. Just not good.”
