Bill Belichick described the Patriots’ win over the Giants as an ‘odd game’
"That's kind of a season's worth all happening in one game."
Bill Belichick continues to be impressed with his defense and special teams’ ability to score. After the Patriots’ 35-14 win over the Giants on Thursday, he admitted that the team probably did in one game what normally takes a whole regular season.
A first-quarter blocked punt resulted in a Chase Winovich recovery and score. Then, in the fourth quarter, linebacker Kyle Van Noy recovered a fumble and ran it back 22 yards for a second non-offensive touchdown.
“It was kind of an odd game,” said Belichick. “Anytime you get [two] scores in a game that are non-offensive touchdowns, that’s kind of a season’s worth all happening in one game. A couple of big plays for us on the blocked punt, on the fumble, the scoop and score by Kyle [Van Noy]. Those are great plays.”
Belichick described the plays as “bonus points,” giving the Patriots a comfortable margin of victory.
“Any defensive or special teams touchdowns are really bonus points,” Belichick explained. “You never really think about getting those when you go into the game, so to be able to get 14 of them was huge. That was a big spark.”
