It took longer than Patriots fans hoped, but Tom Brady and the offense finally got into a rhythm in the second half of Sunday’s 33-7 win over the Redskins.

New England scored 21 points in the second half and scored three touchdowns in their first four drives of the half.

“We made some adjustments. I thought we did a better job executing,” Brady told reporters of the team’s second-half performance. “There’s not much other than that, just playing better football.”

Brady bounced back from a subpar performance against the Bills last week. He was 28 of 42 for 348 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also passed Brett Favre to move into third place on the all-time passing yards list.

However, it was New England’s ground game that was the difference-maker in the second half. Running back Sony Michel ran for 81 yards in the half, including a 14-yard touchdown that put the Patriots up 26-7 in the third quarter.

Brady credited the second-half rushing performance to the Patriots’ increasing play count.

“I think one thing that did help was that the play count got up there pretty high, so we had quite a few plays before halftime,” Brady said. “Anytime you feel like you do that, you feel like you’re going to wear the other team out and those three-yard runs become six-yard runs. Then, finally, you can break one.

Brady was happy for the second-year running back, who struggled in the team’s first four games this season.

“Sony broke a long one, kind of going along our sideline and then the touchdown run,” Brady said. “It was great to see. He ran hard. He ran his butt off. So, [I’m] proud of him.”

Michel finished with the game with 91 rushing yards on 16 carries, a new season-high. He only had 171 rushing yards on the season coming into Sunday’s game.

Despite the complete performance by the offense, Brady still feels that there is room to grow.

“We could be a lot better,” Brady said. “I think that’s how we feel.”

Brady and the Patriots have a short week ahead of them. They head back home to face the New York Giants on Thursday night.
