The greatest Patriots game of all-time is a game they didn’t win.

Super Bowl XLII, where the Patriots fell to the New York Giants, 17-14, and lost their hopes of a perfect season, is the greatest game that’s ever involved the Patriots, according to the “NFL 100 Greatest” games list.

The greatest game that ended in a Patriots win is Super Bowl XLIX. The Patriots came back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and Malcolm Butler made an interception at the goal line to give them a 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks and their fourth Super Bowl title.

In the NFL Network special to celebrate the league’s 100th season, Super Bowls XLII and XLIX were voted the fifth and eighth-best games in NFL history, respectively. The list was voted on by 68 media members.

Right behind Super Bowl XLIX on the list is another Patriots Super Bowl win. New England’s 28-point comeback win over Atlanta in Super Bowl LI was voted the ninth-best game on the list.

Two Patriots wins from the 2001 season were ranked in the top 20. New England’s win over Oakland in the AFC Divisional Round (otherwise known as the “The Tuck Rule” game) came in at No. 15, and the Patriots’ upset win over the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI came in at No. 20.

Three Patriots wins were revealed in the No. 31-100 section last week.

The 1958 Colts vs. Giants NFL Championship Game came in at No. 1 ,and the 49ers’ win over the Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship Game was voted No. 2.
