The Red Sox also got a win on Sunday, defeating the Rays 7-4. Nathan Eovaldi allowed only three runs over six innings, throwing exactly 100 pitches.
Tom Brady’s thoughts on Malcolm Butler’s Super Bowl interception: During his weekly interview on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” Tom Brady was asked about the NFL’s recent ranking of the greatest plays in league history. Specifically, Malcolm Butler’s Super XLIX interception against the Seahawks was chosen as the fifth-best play ever.
Brady reflected on the moment when asked if he thought it should’ve been ranked higher.
“Unfortunately everyone made a big deal of the play call and so forth,” said Brady. “The reality in my view was they couldn’t have run the ball in that situation because of the way that our defense had designed our defensive play. So we forced them to throw it.”
As for Butler’s interception, Brady explained why it was so special from a purely football perspective.
“Malcolm made I believe one of the greatest plays in the history of the NFL, which look, No. 5 is pretty good considering 100 years of the NFL and all these plays. So I told Malcolm, ‘That was one of the greatest defensive plays I’ve seen in my life.’ For him to recognize it, for him to basically — so few players could’ve made that play because of his quickness, his burst, and then his ability to attack the football. Dont’a made the play before that to stop Marshawn from getting in. And then Malcolm made that play so, that was pretty crazy.
Brady also revisited his own reaction to Butler’s play, when he jumped for joy and screamed as the New England sideline celebrated.
“I lost my mind when he made that play,” Brady recalled. “That was an out-of-body experience. That was pretty sweet to see.”
Trivia: Almost exactly 10 years ago, the Patriots played the Jets in what was Bill Belichick’s final game coaching in Giants Stadium (now replaced by MetLife Stadium). In the NFL Films documentary, “A Football Life,” Belichick reflected on his time with the Giants during his final visit in the old stadium. What two teams did Belichick help the Giants beat in Super Bowls XXI and XXV?
(Answer at the bottom).
Hint: Both AFC teams had Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

Teams were reportedly still interested in Antonio Brown
: According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, three teams were considering signing the former Patriots wide receiver. Yet as Florio pointed out, that was on Saturday. On Sunday, Brown fired off a series of controversial tweets that might give possible suitors even more cause to hold off. [Pro Football Talk]
Deion Sanders interviewed Jamie Collins Sr. after Collins recorded two sacks in Sunday’s win:
He had 2 sacks in the @Patriots win, but @j_collins91 told @DeionSanders its a team effort.
“It’s all 11 guys. It ain’t just one or two of us. That’s what makes us so special.”

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell had some postgame thoughts on his team being 0-3:
all you haters, enjoy it for now..just don’t go casper when all this gets turned around..we embrace adversity, we embrace the hate, and everyone that wants to see my team fail, or me fail individually, I’ll remember, we’ll remember it ALL, & use it, & wear it as a badge of honor!
