Tom Brady gave a philosophical answer when asked about social media
"We're almost asking people to be inhuman."
Tom Brady’s presence on social media has grown over the years, but the Patriots quarterback has kept a similar approach for most of his posts.
Along with a Facebook account, Brady joined Instagram in 2017 and Twitter in 2019.
During a WEEI interview with “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday, Brady was asked if he has any “rules” when it comes to social media.
“I don’t know if it’s rules, it’s just that there’s a specific point of view,” said Brady. “I think I try to make mine a reflection of who I am and what I care about.”
Brady emphasized his understanding of his platform.
“As a public figure, there is a responsibility to try to do the right thing,” the 42-year-old noted. “Life is challenging. I mean I don’t think anyone is perfect.”
“I think it’s a little unfortunate in the world today, the expectations are perfection for people, and then when we’re less than that, there’s so much blame and shame,” Brady continued. “I think that’s a hard thing about our culture today. We’re almost asking people to be inhuman. There’s nothing you can do without the utmost scrutiny. And then everyone wants to just see everyone raked over the coals.”
The additional difficulty, as Brady sees it, is from the standpoint as a parent.
“I think that part is really challenging as a parent for your kids, because when you’re parenting your kids, you’re just trying to teach them but you realize that people learn from their mistakes.
“As a society today, I think we’re just…I think it’s a very challenging time,” Brady said, after hesitating. “So from my standpoint on social media, it’s just about trying to pass on and convey messages that I feel are fun or something inspiring. I’m a very positive person and I try to keep my social media that way because that’s my point of view. That’s how I choose to go through life.”
