The Patriots are among the four teams with the “strongest early interest” in running back LeSean McCoy, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.

McCoy, who was released by the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, is a free agent. Along with the Patriots, Rapoport lists the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and Los Angeles Chargers as others interested in pursuing the 31-year-old veteran.

New England’s running back depth chart currently consists of James White, Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead, Damien Harris, and Brandon Bolden. Michel, as a rookie, led the team in carries (209) and rushing yards (931) last season, despite concerns about his knee. White posed a dual threat as a pass-catcher, finishing with a team-high 87 receptions for 751 yards and seven touchdowns.

If signed by another team, McCoy would be starting his 11th NFL season. He has logged six seasons with 1,000-plus rushing yards, most recently with the Bills in 2017. His last season, however, was marked by career lows in rushing yards, average yards per attempt, and average yards per game.
