The Bruins fell to the Jets on Tuesday on a shootout goal. The 4-3 final score hinged on back-t0-back goals from Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor in a 34-second span during the third period.

The Patriots continue preparations for Sunday’s Super Bowl LIII against the Rams. And the Celtics host the Hornets tonight at TD Garden, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Tom Brady was asked about his similarities to LeBron James: Comparing elite athletes from different sports isn’t always an exact science. Tom Brady, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, produced a joking breakdown of LeBron James when asked about the two.

“We’re similar athletes, LeBron and I,” said Brady behind a wry smile. “Both great size and speed, jumping ability, shooting.”

Brady acknowledged the reality as he saw it.

“Not quite, no he’s a much better athlete than me.”

The Revolution appear to be close to a signing: The New England Revolution are “expected” to complete the acquisition of 26-year-old Spanish midfielder Carles Gil from Deportivo La Coruna. The transfer fee could exceed $1.5 million. [Pro Soccer USA]

Adrian Wojnarowski offered an Anthony Davis scenario:

On this day: In 1979, the Celtics traded Jo Jo White to the Warriors for a first round pick. This gave the Celtics three first round picks for the ’79 draft, as well as the rights to Larry Bird (selected in 1978). Red Auerbach used these picks to launch on a thread of maneuvers that resulted in acquiring Robert Parish and Kevin McHale:

  • Feb. 12: The Celtics traded all three picks (and center Tom Barker) to the Knicks for future Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo.
  • Sept. 6: After the Celtics signed free agent M.L. Carr from the Pistons in the summer, Boston sent McAdoo to Detroit for free agent compensation (as was league practice in 1979). In return – and partly due to pressure from the Celtics – the Pistons sent two 1980 first round picks as part of the exchange.
  • June 9, 1980: The two Pistons picks turned out to be first and 13th overall in the draft. The Celtics traded both picks to the Warriors (who took Joe Berry Carroll first overall) for Robert Parish and the third overall pick (which Boston used to select Kevin McHale).
