Tom Brady Sr. told amusing stories about his son’s competitiveness
The Patriots star tended to throw golf clubs when things didn't go his way on the course, according to his father.
In the wake of Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman’s comments about Tom Brady’s age and his walk back from those comments that followed on Super Bowl LIII’s Opening Night in Atlanta, Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., joined ESPN’s Get Up! Thursday to share a few stories about his son’s competitive nature growing up, including one about a particularly intense round of golf.

Brady Sr. said he and Tom golfed frequently together, and one day the pair stopped on the way to Candlestick Park for a San Francisco Giants game to play nine holes. The father-son duo often made bets, and pretty soon the future NFL superstar found himself in a deep hole.
“Of course, we would always double-or-nothing, so by the time we got to the seventh hole he owed me about 40 car washes,” Brady Sr. said. “He ended up throwing the club into the trees, and I sent him to the car and told him I’d never play golf with him again in his life.”
Brady Sr. said after he completed the nine holes on his own, his son told him he would never throw a golf club again, and they ended up playing another round of nine holes on the way home from that Giants game.
“But that didn’t stop him from throwing golf clubs,” Brady Sr. said.
He said Tom once threw a television remote through a wall and created a hole that Mrs. Brady covered up with a picture during high school, only to reveal to Brady Sr. about three years later as their son prepared to leave for college at the University of Michigan.
“It was one of those things where he couldn’t believe that something had occurred and he put the TV remote through the wall,” Brady Sr. said.
