How newspaper front pages captured the Patriots’ dramatic win over the Chiefs
Morning-after sports headlines never get old, do they?
The Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl — again — with their victory on the road over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship on Sunday night. As with all major sports events, part of the fun is the aftermath: postgame interviews, commentary and “hot takes” from analysts and fans alike, and most iconic of all, morning-after newspaper front pages. Here’s a look at what newspapers around the country offered on yet another classic Patriots playoff victory:
The Boston Globe:
At this point, it’s hard to find a dramatic headline that fully grasps the magnitude of the Patriots’ almost two decades of success. The Globe keeps it simple: just look at the score.

Boston Herald:
The Herald captured the moment Tom Brady jumped into his teammates’ arms from two different angles on its front and back page Monday, simply capturing Brady’s overtime heroics and summing up his entire career in just a few words.

The Washington Post:
“Overtime’s a charm,” writes the Post. For Tom Brady, it sure was. The rest of the country, Patriots lovers and haters alike, may not feel the same way about gut-wrenching overtime football.

The Kansas City Star:
Boston sports fans old enough to remember the days before Bill Belichick, when chants of “nineteen-eighteen” reigned as Yankee Stadium’s signature taunt, and Celtics and Bruins teams of the late 1990s know the pain infused in The Kansas City Star‘s front page and sports section Monday. Luckily for Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes has his whole career ahead of him.

Portland Press Herald, Portland, Maine
“They did it again,” writes the Press Herald. Even the most confident Patriots fans felt that thought run through their mind Sunday night.

The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Indiana:
The Journal Gazette got in the action all the way from Indiana, a state with no apparent vested interest in either NFL conference championship game Sunday night. Either way, their take was simple: the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl for the third season in a row.
