One question football fans love to speculate about is if two NFL legends traded places. While Green Bay fans might not get too many comments about a Brady-to-the-Packers scenario, the Patriots quarterback apparently offered his take on the opposite happening with Rodgers.
In a recent piece from ESPN writer Ian O’Connor, Brady was quoted as having explained how he thinks Rodgers would do in New England’s system.
“He’d throw for 7,000 yards every year,” Brady reportedly said. “He’s so much more talented than me.”
The quote, according to O’Connor, was made “in a conversation with an NFL coach within the past few seasons.”
Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, which will be just the second time the two quarterbacks have played each other, Brady has offered effusive praise of Rodgers.
“What he’s done as a quarterback, I think it’s inspiring, even for me. I watch his game, and it makes me want to get out there and practice and improve,” Brady said in an interview for WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan.” “I think he’s so phenomenal with how he manages himself in the pocket, and his ability to throw the football is probably unlike anybody in the history of the league. It’s pretty awesome to watch. I mean he throws some of the best incompletions I’ve ever seen.”
Rodgers responded by describing how much he admires Brady during a Thursday conference call with the media:
The feeling’s mutual. As a young player, I watched a ton of his film. I had a great guy to watch every single day in Brett Favre, but Tommy’s been at the top of his game for a long, long time. So, I watched most of the snaps from the ‘07 season and I’ve always been a big fan of his. Just the stuff he does on the field is phenomenal and then to see him, as he’s gotten older in his career, continue to reinvent himself year after year and play at a high level every single season, obviously winning the championships, he’s a phenomenal player.
But he’s a pioneer as far as taking care of his body and rewriting the longevity books for players of his caliber. It’s been really impressive to watch, and any time I get a chance when he’s on Thursday night, Sunday night, Monday night, I’m for sure tuning in.
Kickoff at Gillette Stadium in the Packers-Patriots matchup is set for 8:20 p.m. Sunday night.
