Watch Josh Gordon’s first touchdown as a Patriot
Teammate Rob Gronkowski probably liked his celebration.
Wide receiver Josh Gordon caught his first touchdown in a Patriots uniform Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts.
Gordon hauled in a 34-yard long ball from quarterback Tom Brady to cap a six-play, 75-yard drive for a score in the fourth quarter. Gordon’s touchdown marked his second catch of the night and extended New England’s lead to 31-17. It was also Brady’s 500th career regular-season touchdown pass and third of the night.

“To catch any pass from Tom is amazing, let alone some history-making catch or pass,” Gordon said after New England’s 38-24 victory. “For him, I told him, ‘Congratulations,’ and I know there’s many more for him to come. Hopefully, he’s got a lot more left in him — I’m pretty sure he does. I’m looking forward to that. The next history point to make for him, I hope to be a part of it.”
Taking a page out of tight end Rob Gronkowski’s book, Gordon celebrated his touchdown with none other than a traditional “Gronk spike.”
Gordon has started two games for the Patriots, tallying four receptions for 84 yards. In both contests, he was on the field for 18 offensive snaps. Brady praised Gordon for his catch Thursday as well as all the hard work the 27-year-old has logged since getting traded to the Patriots mid-September. He said the decision to throw the deep ball was a reflection of their expedited trust level.
“It tells you the kind of confidence I have in everybody in a short period of time,” Brady said. “He’s earned it. Happy to see him make that play.”
Coach Bill Belichick also acknowledged Gordon’s efforts, noting that Brady has spent “extra time” working with him over the past few weeks. With the return of wide receiver Julian Edelman, Gordon hopes to continue to carve out his role.
“When my opportunity presents itself, when my number gets called, I’m going to go out there and give it 100 percent, just like everybody else,” he said.
