Rob Gronkowski leaves Patriots game with ankle injury
FOXBOROUGH — Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski left Sunday’s game in the third quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
The Patriots declared Gronkowski questionable to return but, with New England leading by multiple scores, it’s unlikely they would have risked aggravating his injury by sending him back in even if it were possible for him to play.
Gronkowski already had been limited in practice throughout the week with an ankle injury, though it wasn’t serious enough to stop him from starting the game.
Before he left for the locker room, Gronkowski got some attention from a trainer on the Patriots bench. The trainer was working on Gronkowski’s right leg.
The Patriots have a short week ahead with the Colts coming to Foxborough for Thursday Night Football, giving Gronkowski less time to recover.
Gronkowski finished with four catches on seven targets for 44 yards against Miami.
