Morning sports update: It’s looking like ‘probably no’ from the Patriots on signing Dez Bryant
The former wide receiver made it clear that, although he remains unsigned, he wouldn't be opposed to linking up with New England.

New England might not reciprocate Dez Bryant’s admiration
The former Cowboys wide receiver tweeted his admiration of the Patriots on Sunday, making it clear that, although he remains unsigned, he wouldn’t be opposed to linking up with New England. Initially, when the Patriots placed running back Jeremy Hill on injured reserve and released wide receivers Riley McCarron and Chad Hansen, the team looked like they could’ve used a little help in that area.
But unfortunately for Dez, it doesn’t look like the two will be hooking up anytime soon– the Patriots have filled two of the three open spots on their roster, and it doesn’t look like Dez is poised to be one of them.

Patriots land WRs Corey Coleman and Bennie Fowler
According to NFL Insider reports, New England has signed Coleman and Fowler.
Both wide receivers were in Foxborough for workouts on Monday.

Previously, Coleman played with the Cleveland Browns, but was traded and then released by the Buffalo Bills earlier this preseason. Coleman had been training with the Patriots, the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles since his release from Buffalo.

What Matt Patricia had to say about his first loss
The New York Jets handed the former New England defensive coordinator his first loss as an NFL head coach, beating Patricia’s Detroit Lions with a whopping 48-17.
“There’s not a lot to be happy about,” Patricia said. “I’ve got to do a better job, and that’s always where I’m going to take it.”
Poor performance from the Lions– namely, quarterback Matt Stafford– cost them their season opener. Linebacker Darron Lee claims that the Jets “were calling out [Stafford’s] plays,” partly due to their film study of the quarterback and his signals earlier that week. “We knew his signals,” Lee said.

Although Patricia is the first NFL coach to lose by 31 or more points in his head-coaching debut since 2008– when Tom Cable coached the Oakland Raiders to a 34-3 loss– Detroit Lions reporter Nate Atkins assures us that he isn’t alone.
Matt Patricia wasn’t the only first-year coach to lose in Week 1. In fact, they all did. All seven of them. 0-7.

Bruins trade Adam McQuaid to the Rangers
Don Sweeney, Bruins GM announced this morning that the Bruins have traded the 31-year-old defenseman to the New York Rangers in exchange for Steven Kampfer, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
Both Sweeney and head coach Bruce Cassidy made statements regarding the trade at a press conference.
“It’s tough to see him go,” Cassidy said. “10 years we’ve been together, going back to Providence.”
McQuaid has spent all 11 seasons with the Boston Bruins and helped lead the team to a Stanley Cup in 2011.
“We want to thank Adam,” Sweeney said. “He was a tremendous Bruin, a tremendous teammate.”
Bill Belichick is a fan of the Gronk Spike
The Gronk Spike debuted on Sept. 26, 2010 after Rob Gronkowski scored his second NFL touchdown off a pass from Tom Brady. Since then, fans have seen plenty of games punctuated with the perfect Gronk Spike– and Sunday’s season opener was no different.
Gronk scored the first touchdown of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium, following it with a celebration dance and a spike.
During Bill Belichick’s weekly interview on WEEI’s “Ordway, Merloni and Fauria,” the head coach discussed the previous day’s football game and mentioned Gronkowski’s dance moves.
“To be able to convert that (fumble) into a touchdown with a great play from Tom to Rob, and catch right on the goal line,”Belichick said. “Can’t forget Rob’s dance after the touchdown to go with the spike.”
Safe to say that after nearly eight years of Gronk Spikes, you can’t help but become a fan. (NESN.com)
