Malcolm Mitchell says goodbye to the Patriots with an Instagram post following his release
"No matter what happens in life, I'll forever be a World Champion."
In the second half of Super Bowl LI, Malcolm Mitchell hauled in five crucial catches for 63 yards as the Patriots stormed back from a 28-3 deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime. Whatever the future holds, Mitchell will always hold that memory — and his championship ring — close.
The Patriots released the wide receiver on Monday. Mitchell, a fourth-round pick in 2016, missed the entirety of last season with a knee injury. The team reportedly tried to shop him as he attempted to return to the field, but couldn’t find a suitor willing to take the risk on his injury.
However, the cold workings of the NFL business didn’t stop Mitchell from thanking Patriots fans on his way out.
“To the community this is not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later,” he wrote. “Go Pats!”
