Foxborough police issue update on burglary of Rob Gronkowski’s home

”It’s a tough combination to have suffered this unfortunate loss and then to get home and be a victim of this kind of crime.”

Rob Gronkowski speaks to the media after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 41-33 in Super Bowl LII.

Foxborough Police Chief William D. Baker has confirmed multiple reports that Rob Gronkowski’s Foxborough home was burglarized Monday night.

“I just want to confirm the reports that Mr. Gronkowski was the victim of a residential burglary last night,” Baker told reporters Tuesday morning. “That call came in at about 6:18 p.m.”

Baker said the burglary occurred while Gronkowski was away, but would not offer additional details on the timing.

“Being a victim of a residential property crime like that is unpleasant,” he said. “Out of respect to Gronkowski’s privacy, and because this is an active criminal investigation, we’re not going to be releasing any information right now about what was stolen or if there are any suspects.”

Baker confirmed “there were items stolen” from Gronkowski’s home but would not release the nature of what was taken. A recording of a call between responding officers and dispatch notes “multiple safes and possibly guns” were taken.

“Obviously, the people who committed the theft know what was stolen,” Baker said. “It’s an investigative advantage for us to know that as well and not share that with the public.”

Baker also would not comment on possible surveillance video or witness accounts from neighbors, saying releasing those details does not help their ongoing investigation. He did not share whether the police department has any suspects or whether multiple people were involved.

“I can say there were no other reported burglaries in that neighborhood during that time period,” he noted. “We hope to comment more on this case when we bring somebody to justice for having committed this burglary.”

Asked how Gronk was doing, Baker said:”It’s a tough combination to have suffered this unfortunate loss and then to get home and be a victim of this kind of crime.”
