The Patriots’ Super Bowl loss leaves a number of lingering questions, one of them being the status of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

While McDaniels has been reported to be in line to become the next Indianapolis Colts head coach, he also apparently never officially told the Patriots that he’s leaving. This has introduced a measure of doubt into McDaniels’s assumed plans following the season to leave for a new head coaching job.

Earlier on Sunday before Super Bowl LII, it was reported by Pro Football Talk that “McDaniels may decide not to leave New England.”

In the postgame of the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss, McDaniels repeated that he wasn’t going to discuss his future in that moment:

McDaniels left the Patriots following the 2008 season to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos. He lasted less than two seasons, eventually ending up back in New England, where he has been a part of five Super Bowl wins.
