Tom Brady’s eight-year-old son, Benjamin, has an idea about how the five-time Super Bowl champion has been able to sustain his peak performance. Sitting in his father’s lap, watching film, Ben told Brady, “I know how you get so good at football. You watch the video and learn some new techniques.”

“You’re right,” Brady said in a conversation captured in the fourth episode of his docu-series, “Tom vs. Time.” “That’s how I get prepared for the game. When I watch, it helps me anticipate when I get out there. I know what’s coming because I can watch them and how they play and all their different techniques. I study all their techniques and then learn.”

The quarterback’s response begged an obvious question from young Benny: “What if they see your techniques?”

“That’s why I got to change my techniques, too, so they don’t see them all,” Brady explained. “Every week, I got to change them. That’s why you have to have a lot of techniques. That’s why you have to work really hard.”

“Good thing that you have a whole team,” Ben replied, before quickly changing the topic to something a little more relevant for his day-to-day.

He was hoping to take home a new $70 toy from Toys R Us.

“You need to do a lot of chores for $70,” the father of three told his son. “That’s a lot of money.”

Benny’s sister, Vivian, also talked to her dad about football. After New England’s 35-17 win over Miami in Week 12, she told Brady, “Sometimes the Dolphins win, sometimes the Patriots win. It’s the same way, right Dad?”

“I hope they win one time,” she added.

“Not me,” Brady responded, before giving his daughter a kiss. “I don’t like them. They’re bad guys forever.”

Looks like Vivian got what she wanted, however, as the Dolphins topped the Patriots, 27-20, in Week 14.
