The Patriots have 18 undrafted free agents on the roster heading into Super Bowl LII, and they might have uncovered another hidden gem at Opening Night in Minnesota.

A German television personality dressed up in the same outfit the New England players were wearing Monday night and slipped into the media frenzy undiscovered. Kai, from the RAN NFL show on the Prosieben Maxx channel, duped multiple American and Mexican TV crews into interviewing him.

A reporter from Fox 29 Philadelphia asked Kai, “How do you say ‘Go Eagles’ in German?”

Kai stayed loyal to his newfound Patriots allegiance.

“Patriots win,” he translated.

The German impersonator was burly enough to fit in with the rest of the Patriots lineman, and center David Andrews didn’t unmask his fellow bearded big man. Kai approached Andrews at his podium and Tom Brady’s protector didn’t change expression as he gave the imposter a friendly fist bump.

Then an official from the Department of Homeland Security, hopefully not one in charge of facial recognition, asked Kai to give a shoutout to the men and women serving in the department.

Kai recorded a message, saying, “Hey folks, keep America safe. Thank you.”

The German TV personality and his cohost worked the room, taking selfies with fans and manuvering into team pictures with the actual Patriots players. Then Kai squeezed his way through the media scrum surrounding Bill Belichick and asked his “coach”, “Can we go home now?”

That wasn’t the only interaction between Belichick and the German media this week. A reporter asked Belichick a question about his plan for stopping Eagles’ tight end Zach Ertz. The coach smiled before declining to reveal his game plan, saying, “That’s the first time I’ve been asked a question from a German reporter that wasn’t about Sebastian Vollmer.”

Devin McCourty was the only one to raise an eyebrow at his new teammate. Kai found the Patriots safety at his booth and told him,”Devin, the time is ticking we have to go. Time to go.” But McCourty didn’t leave with the stranger, saying, “I don’t know you. You’re trying to kidnap me.”

Kai eventually decided it was time to leave, but his time as a Patriot wasn’t up. He was ushered through an exit with a few real New England players, and the video ended before the ruse did.
