Update:

The Patriots are expected to sign linebacker James Harrison, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Harrison visited the Patriots on Tuesday, per Yates.

The 39-year-old was released by the Steelers Saturday and went unclaimed on waivers, making him a free agent. Harrison is in his 15th NFL season and has played only 40 snaps this year. Last season, he recorded 39 tackles and five sacks. Harrison was the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year and a member of two Steelers teams that won the Super Bowl (XL and XLIII).

If the Patriots sign Harrison, he would provide veteran leadership and a solid edge presence that could help the team’s run defense. The acquisition would also supply New England with the oldest defensive player in the league. The team already has the oldest offensive player in the league: Tom Brady.
