What Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Martellus Bennett had to say about Bennett’s return to New England
"It's good to have him back."
One of the Patriots’ most unique players from the 2016 season is back. And Martellus Bennet was already a postgame talking point following New England’s impressive win in Denver on Sunday night.
Bennett, who was claimed off of waivers by the Patriots on Nov. 9 following a controversial exit from Green Bay, was delighted to be back with the team he won a Super Bowl with earlier in 2017.
When asked about his shoulder injury (the source of his disputed departure from the Packers) and his subsequent reemergence in New England, Bennett offered a pithy response (using strong language):
Marty Bennett said, “It’s not about could you play, it’s should you play,” so I asked him why he felt he shouldn’t play in Green Bay. Here was his answer: pic.twitter.com/LhOQdkxLDf

Martellus Bennett explained how he went from wanting surgery with the Packers to wanting to play for the Patriots.

Bennett’s agent called him to say Belichick reached out about claiming him. Bennett’s reaction? Excitedly said, “No fucking way!”

Bennett also had a message for his critics:
When asked about making the Packers angry, Bennett said something like “I’m rubber your glue whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you”

Bill Belichick noted that “it’s good to have [Bennett] back.”
“He worked really hard,” said Belichick about Bennett rejoining the team midweek. “He was here early and stayed late.”
Tom Brady was similarly grateful to have a familiar face back around:
