Martellus Bennett reportedly suffering from torn rotator cuff
The Patriots claimed Martellus Bennett on waivers Thursday afternoon after the Packers released the tight end due to “failure to disclose a physical condition.”
Although Green Bay has not revealed any detailed information, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport relayed that Bennett has a torn rotator cuff. According to Rapoport, the 30-year-old could try to play through the injury, but should his efforts be unsuccessful, New England could then put him on injured reserve.
Just reported on @gmfb: The #Packers waived TE Martellus Bennett because of a torn rotator cuff, per sources. He may try to play through it, but if he cannot, the #Patriots could put him on Injured Reserve. No risk for them.

Packers News’ Aaron Nagler reported late Friday morning that Green Bay’s head coach Mike McCarthy said the last medical conversation he was involved with in regards to Bennett’s status included talks of “scheduling surgery.”
The tight end was suited up for the Patriots’ final practice before leaving for Denever, however, wearing no. 88 as he did last season. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Bennett’s attendance reflects that he passed the team’s physical.
