Tom Brady defended his training regimen in his weekly radio appearance
Coming off the Patriots’ bye week, Tom Brady’s weekly interview on WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan” had no game to reflect on. Instead, they discussed a number of other topics, including recent ESPN criticism of Brady’s new book, “The TB12 Method.”
Brady admitted that he had not read the story, but took issue with several of its conclusions about his much-discussed methodology. Upon hearing from show co-host Kirk Minihane that the ESPN writers concluded he didn’t believe “luck” played a role in injuries, Brady spoke up.
“That’s not true,” Brady said. “I disagree with that. There’s no logic in that.”
When asked why he did the ESPN interview at all, Brady reiterated that he’s generally a “positive person.”
“I think sometimes I’m maybe a little naive to certain things, and maybe don’t realize someone else’s angle,” Brady explained. “I guess I’m a pretty trusting person.”
In regards to the TB12 Method, Brady offered an explanation for why he’s adopted such a complete regimen:
I don’t think I could have sustained playing quarterback with my right arm had I not changed my routine because I just couldn’t throw. It just hurt too much to throw. That would suck for a quarterback. I changed the things I did, realized, “Wow, that worked for my arm. Let me try and work on other parts of my body.”
Ultimately, Brady explained that his belief in the TB12 Method comes down to personal experience.
“My routine works for me and I obviously have strong feelings about how I prepare and why would I get off that now?” Brady said. “I see so many players get injured on a weekly basis in the NFL. I can still go out to practice every Wednesday without being sore and so I go, ‘OK, I’ll just keep doing what I am doing.’”
Brady also responded to another notable report that emerged in the last week. When asked about the rumor emanating from his “camp” regarding the possibility of being traded after 2017 (which a reporter on Twitter deemed as the reason why Jimmy Garoppolo was traded), Brady had a humorous reply.
“I don’t even know who my camp is,” Brady joked.
