The Patriots have found a replacement backup quarterback. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and others, New England signed Brian Hoyer to a three-year deal on Wednesday — just over 24 hours following Jimmy Garoppolo’s departure. The team confirmed the acquisition Wednesday afternoon.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Packers were also vying for Hoyer; however, the 32-year-old opted to return to his former home. He was previously a member of the Patriots for three seasons, from 2009-2011.

Hoyer started the first six games of the 2017 season for the 49ers, throwing four touchdowns and four interceptions before the team released him on Oct. 31.  He has a career completion percentage of 59.3 percent and a passer rating of 83.3.
