Morning sports update: Chris Hogan to have MRI after shoulder injury
The Patriots head into the team’s bye week at 6-2 after a 21-13 win over the Chargers on Sunday, while the Astros won a truly classic 13-12 duel against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series.
Here’s a look at that and a few other stories from around the sports world:
Chris Hogan slated for Monday MRI: The 29-year-old wide receiver suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ win over the Chargers. He left the game after making five receptions for 60 yards. According to reports, Hogan will get an MRI on the injury on Monday morning. (ESPN)
World Series continues to thrill with epic Game 5: The Astros stepped to the precipice of a first World Series title in team history on Sunday night, outlasting the Dodgers 13-12 over 10 innings.
“A World Series is not supposed to have a Game-For-The-Ages twice within a span of five days,” wrote the Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy, “but the 2017 Fall Classic already ranks as one of the best ever played and we still have one or two games left.” (Boston Globe)
NBA top pick Markelle Fultz out “indefinitely” with shoulder injury: Once considered the Celtics’ presumptive pick in the 2017 draft, Markelle Fultz ended up in Philadelphia after Boston traded down to the third pick (selecting Jayson Tatum). Now, it appears Fultz has run into some early injury trouble in his NBA career. The rookie guard will be shutdown “indefinitely” with a shoulder injury and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. (ESPN)
Even on a bye week, Brady still “thinking about Denver”: The Patriots enter a much needed bye week, allowing for the nursing of injuries and a collective rest for Bill Belichick’s 6-2 team. As ever, Tom Brady will still be laser focused. The object of his attention? The Broncos (who the Patriots play following the bye). (WEEI)
Daily highlight: Why not bask in the glow of a truly, historically bad punt return from Travis Benjamin? It handed the Patriots arguably the easiest points the team will score all season:
