Rob Ninkovich said he’s ‘not closing the door’ on a comeback
A Rob Ninkovich comeback is not totally out of the question.
Speaking on CSNNE’s Early Edition Wednesday night, Ninkovich indicated that he wouldn’t be completely opposed to playing in the NFL again. The former linebacker, who retired in July, said that he’s “not closing the door, just in case something happened.”
“I’m not going to lie,” Ninkovich told CSNNE. “I could go, I could play and could help the team.”
But the 33-year-old said he hasn’t had any official discussions with the team regarding that possibility:
I haven’t had any contact. I kind of took some time to relax with my family. Unfortunately, my grandfather had a stroke right before camp and he has passed since. It was nice to be able to go home, spend time with him, go to his funeral, do the things I needed to do for my family, be there for my mom. Those were things I wouldn’t have been able to do if I was in training camp. Those are blessings.”
The Patriots defense is a little thin following a number of injuries.
“When I was watching the offseason and I was watching the things they had done in the draft and they had picked up a couple of guys, picked up [Kony] Ealy … They have four, five, six D-end guys like myself,” he said. “If I were to step away they would be fine, but you have camp and guys get injured, they get cut and then you’re looking at the roster and you didn’t expect it to look that way.”
