In the Patriots’ preseason finale against the New York Giants, the same quarterback played the duration of the game from beginning to end. He went 28-for-39, throwing for four touchdowns and 341 yards. But the passer wasn’t Tom Brady nor was it Jimmy Garappolo. That stat line belonged to third-stringer Jacoby Brissett.

With the exception of one pick-six in the first quarter, Brissett dazzled in his start against a team that has historically given New England trouble in the Super Bowl. The majority of players on the field were backups, but the 24-year-old still experienced a number of high-pressure situations in a contest that went down to the wire.

“It makes you feel like a kid again,” Brissett said following the game, which New England lost, 40-38. “It’s hard to explain the words. You know, you wish the results were different, but that was fun. That was a lot of fun.”

Watch some of his highlights below.

The Patriots got on the board first with a nine-yard reception by Cody Hollister:

After the defense made a crucial stop on third down in the fourth quarter, Brissett kept the drive alive by evading what seemed like an inevitable sack to set up Stephen Gostkowski for a 55-yard field goal:
