Kyrie Irving is officially a Boston Celtic after some temporary drama, the Red Sox look to widen their 5.5-game lead over the Yankees in the AL East, and the Patriots will wrap up their preseason against the Giants at Gillette Stadium.

Tom Brady and fellow starters to rest in preseason finale: According to the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe, third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett will get the start Thursday night against the New York Giants. Howe speculates that head coach Bill Belichick could also make a last-minute change by swapping in Jimmy Garoppolo to simulate a potential in-game experience for the backup quarterback. But that possibility seems unlikely as of now.

Patriots’ Super Bowl comeback astounded even NFL Films: “It’s amazing to me how many plays were thought about beforehand,” Rodgers said. “What schemes were thought about beforehand, situations that were thought about, in a way I’m not sure I’ve seen a staff think about a game, in the history of the National Football League.

“When you follow their thought process of going through this comeback, and see how all of the tumblers had to fit perfectly in order for the comeback to happen, you’re really left with a viewpoint on a collective genius.” (The Boston Globe)

The Cleveland Browns have a hilarious take on Tom Brady’s Sports Illustrated cover photo: In a tweet Tuesday, the team congratulated their seven-time All-Pro offensive tackle Joe Thomas on his cover presence — scaled down to the size of a piece of fruit (let’s say, avocado) small enough to fit in Brady’s hand.
