Last week, Floyd Mayweather said Tom Brady texted him in the days leading up to his fight with Conor McGregor Saturday night. He went on to describe Brady as a “close friend,” a notion Brady seemed to dispute in a radio interview Monday morning.

“Uh, no. I met him a couple of times,” Brady said on WEEI after a long pause. “I think he’s a great fighter. That was a great fight the other night.”

Brady watched the fight on Sunday morning because he was busy Saturday night.

“No, I saw it the next morning,” he said. “I had a friend’s wedding I was at. It was a fun night for me. I had a lot of my friends in town. One of my great friends got married, so it was a fun night.”

As part of Showtime’s “All Access” program in the weeks leading up to the fight, Brady was seen FaceTiming at Mayweather’s press conference with McGregor.

Brady was asked a second time about his connection with Mayweather.

“Yeah, I’ve met him a couple of times,” said Brady after another long pause. “Like I said, I think he’s a great fighter.”
